MAUREEN TREFETHREN, MS, LPCC, NCC

Prior to returning to school for a Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling, she worked in emergency medicine for 16 years, (two years in the ER, and 14 years as a paramedic). Her time in the field underscored a love of working with patients struggling with mental health issues. She volunteered with the Center for Victims of Torture, worked in ARMHS for two years, and a local domestic violence groups. Additionally, she has obtained training and experience working with early childhood trauma, family systems, PTSD, ADHD and addiction issues. Given her unique background, she also welcomes clients from emergency, military or medical backgrounds as it is a common struggle to find a therapist who understands the ins and outs of these complex fields and their cultures.

Her experience in medicine and mental health has informed her approach to care, educational and empowering ways. She is a firm believer that the client is their own best expert and her job is to walk with them thorough this process and help them make connections. She believes in educational and insight-based approaches. She is an integrative therapist meaning she will tailor and adapt the approach to your own unique needs and strengths. She strongly believes clients should be given the tools to help understand their bodies and minds fully.
