AYSEM R. SENYUREKLI, PhD, LMFT

Welcome, and thank you for visiting my site. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Minnesota offering individual and couples therapy for adults. I hold a M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of San Diego and a Ph.D. in Family Social Science from the University of Minnesota.

My Focus

Broadly, my focus is helping clients find greater fulfillment in their lives and relationships. More specifically, I aim to help clients address issues manifesting in the mind and body which prevent their ability to thrive. This often involves identifying, better understanding, and discarding the use of maladaptive coping mechanisms that may have been useful in the past but prevent growth and fulfillment now. It also involves lifting the intensity of present day emotions associated with past traumas.

I utilize theories and empirical knowledge from the fields of family therapy, psychology, and neuroscience to guide my work. I also integrate mindfulness practices geared towards helping clients more effectively access the present moment, even when the pull may be towards regrets about the past and worries about the future. I am Basic ART trained and use evidence-based Accelerated Resolution Therapy to help in the treatment of problems associated with depression, anxiety, phobias, and PTSD.

Early in my work with clients, I create a working treatment plan that evolves over time. While each situation is different, some common treatment plan goals include helping clients a) increase their ability to live in greater alignment with personal values; b) communicate more authentically and assertively; c) set and defend healthy boundaries, d) increase capacity for emotional and physical intimacy, e) rebuild trust, f) create flexible and balanced thinking patterns, g) understand and lift the impact of past challenges and traumas on present-day concerns, and h) create resilience in the nervous system, allowing for better stress management using positive coping mechanisms.

My role is to help clients meet treatment goals. I am fairly active during this process. I provide psychoeducation, introduce concepts and skills, use metaphors and imagery to explore and deepen connections, and help clients set intentions between sessions. Sometimes I help clients add other specialists to their treatment team, such as a Licensed Drug and Alcohol Counselor or a Psychiatrist. I find that most clients are open to expanding their team as their awareness of what is keeping them stuck grows throughout the process of therapy.

The Logistics

Please e-mail or call me to see if I am taking on new clients. When you reach out to me, we will schedule a 15-20 minute consultation to determine if we are a good fit for working together. Everyone who will be participating in the therapy should be present for this conversation. We will discuss why you are reaching out for support, broadly discuss treatment goals, and touch base about scheduling and payment. We will also discuss how we will be holding our sessions. Currently, I am seeing clients both virtually and in person.

Please note that I am not able to accommodate clients needing evening or weekend sessions.

Payment Information

I am in-network with most major health insurance companies. Please contact me to see if I am currently working with your health insurance plan. If I am out of network with your plan or you choose to pay out of pocket, my hourly rate is $160. You can use a Health Savings Account (HSA) to pay for your sessions and could receive partial reimbursement from your health insurance company after submitting an itemized receipt (provided by me) for out of network services received. Please contact your HSA plan and/or your insurance company to explore these options.
